Justin Bieber is coming off a major hit documentary with his “Never Say Never” film that has just been released. And, he has even done some acting work on “CSI.” So, he certainly has the experience necessary to make the jump to feature film, doesn’t he?
This is where Mark Wahlberg comes in. Wahlberg, who is a huge fan of Bieber, has gone through what Bieber is going through now as he fights to make the move from teen star to feature film actor. Wahlberg stated in August that “the world needs Justin Bieber … Justin Bieber is like the white Tupac.” Now, in an interview with New York magazine he said, “Justin Bieber and I are going to do a movie together.”
Wahlberg is currently discussing the idea with Paramount and wants to start staging the movie at the studio after finishing his movie “The Fighter,” which won an Academy Award. Even better, Bieber is apparently thrilled about the idea. Wahlberg said, “He loves the idea. He’s been sending me video, he sent me a video of himself, and, yeah, I think he’s really talented.”
According to Wahlberg, the film is a drama about a “reluctant mentor in an inner-city environment.” He also said that there would be no singing or dancing in the movie, either by himself of Bieber. Wahlberg even went so far as to say in August that he would not perform hip-hop again, unless he was asked by Bieber to do so. He hasn’t performed in twenty years.
In a report by Deadline Hollywood, the movie is about street basketball and Bieber will be able to show he can act in a dramatic film. The producers of the movie will be Wahlberg and his partner Stephen Levinson and Scooter Braun, Bieber’s manager. Ian Edelman, creator of “How to Make in in America” seen on HBO, is writing the script.
Deadline’s report stated, “The tone of the project is described as ‘The Color of Money’ meets ‘The Karate Kid,’ and it came out of Wahlberg and Levinson seeing Bieber play ball in February during a celebrity game held during NBA All-Star Game weekend.”
It is obvious that Bieber wants to continue acting. He was very excited about his guest spot in the role of Jason McCann on “CSI” last September. He said, “I liked it because you never knew what was going to happen. Now that I’m on it, it’s pretty cool. It opens a different audience to the show and it also helps me because a new audience that might not know me is now going to see me. So it works both ways.”
