Justin Bieber Causes Riot in Canadian Shopping Mall

Posted by Deena Edison On December - 28 - 2010

If singer Justin Bieber thought he could roam around a mall without being mobbed, then he thought wrong.

According to the website Monsters and Critics, on Boxing Day, Canada’s bank holiday on December 26, Biebs went out at a local mall to shop, hopefully in anonymity but not for long though.  Just minutes later, the sixteen year old singer was recognized – probably by his hair – and was swarmed by hundreds of chaotic female fans.

The police had to be called in to take the singer away from the stampede of screaming and chasing fans.  Had the police arrived a minute later, it would have been impossible for Bieber to exit the mall alive and whole.

The singer has a track record of being mobbed by his fans whenever possible.  Just last summer in Connecticut where the singer opened his “My World 2.0” tour at the Hartford XL Center, Bieber, who wanted to be as close to his fans as possible without being hammered and all, had to perform from a heart shaped cage harnessed above his fans.

Clearly, there are a lot of things this not-so-normal sixteen year old guy cannot do, and has to do just to get things done.

Justin Bieber Teams Up with Rascal Flatts on Upcoming Album

Posted by Deena Edison On December - 20 - 2010

Ok so Justin Bieber does have a bit of hip-hop swag due to his friendships with rappers such as Kayne West, Drake, Ludacris and Diddy.  However it appears the pop superstar is about to go a bit country.

Gary LeVox, lead singer of Rascal Flatts, recently made a big revelation while appearing on WSIX, a country radio station.  LeVox said, Justin asked if we would do a duet on his next album.  It’s a great song, actually.  The kid has a lot of talent.  He plays five to six different instruments very well.

Bieber on Sunday confirmed the statements by LeVox on Twitter and also praised the country band.  He wrote, I love Rascal Flatts.  I am very honored that we will be making music together.  He also linked to a record of theirs and Bieber fan video that had “My Wish,” a Rascal Flatts song, playing as the background music.

On Sunday Bieber also tweeted that he and Lil Twist were hanging out.  The two have been collaborating on a mixtape.  Regarding their work together Bieber said, I don’t know.  Lil Twist is a homey of mine.  We are working together on some stuff just for fun.

The teenage singer indeed is working hard on some new music.  Bieber last Tuesday was spotted at the New York City studio of Diddy’s working on an upcoming album.  That day Bieber tweeted, I have missed being in the studio and making music.  Tonight I made some really great records.

Justin Bieber in Running for Oscar?

Posted by Deena Edison On December - 17 - 2010

Will Justin Bieber win an Oscar?  Maybe.  Already he was a contender for Best New Artist award from BET.  This week Bieber also showed up on the shortlist with “Never Say Never” for the Academy’s best original song.  The song is a duet from the movie “The Karate Kid” that he sang with Jaden Smith.

Bieber does face some fierce competition.  On the shortlist are 41 songs, including “You Haven’t Seen the Last of Me” by Cher from “Burlesque” and “Shine” by John Legend from “Waiting for Superman,” in addition to artists like Randy Newman, Eddie Vedder, Avril Lavigne, Carrie Underwood and even Gwyneth Paltrow.  This shortlist will be pared down to five nominees after Academy music branch voters listen to song clips next month.  There will also be a DVD of the songs for members so they can watch and listen to the songs from home.  Busy working professionals find it hard to make it to in-person, live events.  So many voters are retired Academy members, which means the Biebs could be fresh out of luck.

The Hollywood Reporter, in other news, has examined whether or not Angelina Jolie should be attending the Golden Globes Awards because she received a nomination for her work in “The Tourist,” the laugh riot, and not because she is one of this world’s biggest stars.

Hollywood Reporter’s Kim Masters said, I say she shouldn’t go.  The press eviscerated that role.  It will be embarrassing for her.

However another expert said that Jolie should borrow a page from Sandra Bullock’s playbook at the Razzies, so long as she does poke fun at herself.  This could lead to another sort of awkwardness however.  The idea of classifying “The Tourist” a comedy came from the film’s director.

Anne Hathaway, Oscar co-host, made a completely surprising visit to P.S. 22, a school chorus group on Staten Island.  They kids received another surprise when they got an invitation to sing at the Oscars.  An easy top 10 Oscar’s moment.

Assault Chargers on Bieber Dropped

Posted by Deena Edison On December - 16 - 2010

Canadian authorities will not be bringing charges against Justin Bieber, the teen singing sensation, over his alleged assaulting of a twelve year old boy inside a Vancouver laser tag arcade.

They say there isn’t enough evidence.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police in October started to investigate accusations that a twelve year old boy was allegedly assaulted by Bieber while playing laser tag in an arcade located in a suburb of Vancouver.

On Tuesday the Canadian police said their investigation was complete and that they would not be forwarding any recommendations to Crown counsel due to insufficient evidence for proceeding with the case.

“The Early Show” of CBS News following the allegations reported there may have been more involved than just a celebrity that had lashed out with an innocent bystander.  According to Dylan Howard, RadarOnline reporter, Bieber might have acted in self-defense.

Howard claims the boy actually provoked and taunted Bieber into the assault.

Corporal Annie Linteau stated that there were minimal injuries suffered by the boy as a result of the incident.  They didn’t require any medical attention.

There was never anything specifically stated by authorities to say that Bieber, the sixteen year old Canadian, was their investigation’s focus.  At the time the incident occurred Bieber was in Vancouver to perform a show.

Willow Smith to Join Justin Bieber on Upcoming European Tour

Posted by Deena Edison On December - 10 - 2010

Whip my hair!  OMG!  Now that music’s dream ticket has been announced, millions of boppers in Europe are counting up their pennies.  Willow Smith announced to the world via Twitter that she and Justin Bieber, the Canadian hearthrob, will be touring together.

The teen sensation asked Willow, a ten year old, to accompany him- which gives his tour extra star power, if that is even possible.  Actor Will Smith’s dapper daughter tweeted that her big brother @justinbieber had invited her to be part of his March European Tour.

The young Willow has lots of overseas fans, as indicated by another tweet.  Thanks to everybody in the UK.  You made “Whip My Hair” No. 1 on iTunes.  Thank you for all your love.

You can bet there are plenty of young Vancouverties who are begging their parents who just got back from seeing Leonard Cohen in concert that they should take a vacation in the spring on the continent to attend Bieber and Willow’s show of a lifetime.

After that there’s always Paris.

Justin Bieber, iPad Top Google’s Hottest Searches of 2010

Posted by Deena Edison On December - 9 - 2010

Apparently this year failed banks and lift-threatening diseases were not as fascinating as cutting-edge electronic devices and mop-topped teenage heartthrobs.

At least not according to the Google annual report “Zeitgeist 2010: How The World Searched.”

This report from the largest search engine in the world shows billions of the search queries that people have typed into Google to reveal the fastest falling and fastest rising search terms for the year.

The hottest search term, according to the report, was “Chatroulette,” which is the name of a website that pairs strangers randomly from all over the world to have live webcam charts.  At the start of the year it became poplar, then started losing steam after it became notorious for streaking nudity, with flashers appearing naked on screens.  In August the website briefly went offline.  It returned in September.

After that, the search terms on the list get more predictable.  The iPad and Justin Bieber were the next popular searches.

Swine flu was this year’s fastest falling search term.  After reports swirled last year on people being affected in the Mexico and U.S., it gripped the attention of the world.  Another term that searchers lost interest with quickly was “WaMu,” which is short for Washington Mutual, the failed bank.  Circuit City was also further down on the list, the consumer electronics retailer which is now defunct.

The searches, for the most part, were consistent with what has been reported by the other search engines.

This is also the first year that a video was created by Google to review their Zeitgeist 2010.

Justin Bieber to Cut His Hair? Bieber Opens Up to Barbara Walters

Posted by Deena Edison On December - 9 - 2010

If anyone can get the latest out of Justin Bieber, it has to be Barbara Walters.  The veteran news reporter was able to flex her impressive ability for sniffing out scoops by getting Bieber to confess to shocking news: he is cutting his hair soon.

During her fascinating interview with the teen sensation from Canada on Thursday night as part of Walter’s “10 Most Fascinating People of 2010”, she asked Bieber the critical question that keeps girls up at night all over the world: will you ever chop off your locks?

Bieber casually admitted, I will probably be cutting it soon.  He then fussed briefly with his famous bangs.

Walters, in addition to obtaining Bieber’s revelations that he was planning to clip his famous tresses, also provided viewers with an inside look of the pop singer’s early life.  Footage of the musically inclined Bieber baby shows his gift for hamming in front of the cameras has always been there.  As a tot, Bieber pounds on a chair, strums a guitar, belts songs in the bathroom, and mans the keyboards in old footage.

Bieber, despite all his success, revealed that his strict mom still punishes him.  When the singer does mess up his mom will take away his phones and computer.

Bieber does get into an occasional scrape, the way many teen age boys do.  He is dating as well.  He insisted he doesn’t have a girlfriend, even though he was caught kissing Jasmine Villegas in September from a car backseat.

When it comes to future Bieber fever, he says he would like it to be a combination of Michael Jackson and Prince.

When Walters asked him what he would name a song about him rising from a poor childhood into a global megastar, the title he offered was quite appropriate: “This Crazy Life.”

Justin Bieber Announces Australian Tour Date

Posted by Deena Edison On December - 2 - 2010

In April Justin Bieber will be touring Australia.

Australia, lock your daughters up!  In April Justin Bieber, the tween heartthrob is returning Down Under.

The 16 year old pop star from Canada has announced dates for the first ever tour of Australia for him.  If Bieber’s promotional visit earlier this year to Sydney was any indication, there better be ambulance paramedics on standby.

Bieber will kick his tour off on April 26 in Brisbane and play in five capital cities.

In April polices had to call of Bieber’s one-off Sydney concert after mass hysteria from young Bieber fanatics resulted in several girls getting hurt at Circular Quay during a crowd stampede.

Ten children at least fainted, with 100 more needing to be pulled into safety from the crowd of around 4,000.  They had been waiting since 2 in the morning to catch the one and only appearance of Bieber’s in Australia.

In just over 12 months Bieber went from obscurity on YouTube to mega global stardom.  He performed later on the Sunrise program on Channel Seven to pacify the screaming mob.

At the American Music Awards last month the singer of “Baby” was named Artist of the Year.  He beat out Usher Raymond, who first signed Bieber and was his music mentor.

Bieber is also the youngest artist since 1963 when Stevie Wonder did it, to enter at number one on Billboard’s US charts with “My World 2.0,” his multi-platinum album.

The concert series for Australia was announced by Frontier Touring Company this morning.  Gold tickets will cost $95 and silver tickets will cost $65.

Visa cardholders will be able to purchase advance tickets starting on December 7 at visaentertainment.com.au.  Frontier members will be able to buy tickets starting on December 9 at frontiertouring.com.  On December 13 general tickets will go on sale.
