Justin Bieber and Lady Gaga both are nearing a major music industry milestone: one billion views on YouTube.
If Lady Gaga keeps up with her current pace, she will surpass one billion views on approximately October 20 according to TubeMogul’s communications director David Birch. She averaged nearly 1.8 million views daily during the month of September.
Bieber will go over 1 billion views on approximately November 1, according to Birch, if his current pace continues. Bieber’s views during the month of September were viewed approximately 3.7 million times a day.
After Bieber and Lady Gaga, Michael Jackson is next closest with approximately 600 million views, Birch says.
Although it appears that Lady Gaga will be first to reach one billion views, data from TubeMogul shows that Bieber lately has been hotter and has been the most viewed musical artist on YouTube. According to data from TubeMobul Bieber from July through September averaged 3.98 million views daily while Lady Gage averaged 2.04 million views.
Since winter Bieber has been red hot. Bieber since February 28, has averaged daily views of 3.83 million to Lady Gaga’s 2.53 million average. To put these numbers into perspective, during this time period the average daily views for Kayne West have been 271,000 per day.
The thing that stands out the most is how consistently Bieber’s videos have performed. TubeMogul in April started their “Most Viral Videos of the Month” for highlighting videos with the most views during a given month, including unofficial versions. Almost 9 of 10 videos on the list are music videos. The one constant over the months has been Justin Bieber. From April to August for the top monthly videos, Bieber had 4 out of 10.
Bieber and Lady Gaga have many of the most-viewed all-time videos on YouTube. The all time most watched video on YouTube is Bieber’s “Baby” at 345 million views. At 92 million views his song “Never Let You Go” ranks No. 22 and at No. 28 is his “Never Say Never” at 86 million views.
“Bad Romance” by Lady Gaga is YouTube’s No. 2 most viewed all time at 288 million views. In the No. 11 spot is her “Just Dance” with 123 millions views. At No. 26 is Gaga’s “Alejandro” at 87 million views. In the No. 31 spot is her “Telephone” video at 85 million views.
Included in YouTube views are Vevo network videos but not those viewed at Vevo.com. Rio Caraeff, Vevo CEO, stated approximately 90 percent of he views on Vevo are from YouTube. Both Lady Gaga and Bieber views are viewed at Vevo.
