Posted by Deena Edison On October - 22 - 2010

Justin Bieber, the teen pop star, may be busy promoting “First Step 2 Forever: My Story,” his biography, or selling out “My World 2.0 Tour” arena shows, but according to Simon Cowell, former judge on “American Idol,” Bieber has other career ambitions as well.

Cowell who is preparing to bring “The X Factor,” his U.K. hit show, to America during an Extra interview on Thursday said he already has had big stars asking to be involved in the talent competition series’ U.S. edition, including Bieber.

Cowell said, he came forward saying he would like to judge some episodes.

Although Cowell declined to provide details on the U.S. debut of “X Factor” next September, he did tell Extra that one of the world’s most famous singers, in addition to Justin Bieber, had gotten in touch with him, out of the blue, last weekend and asked about the show.  Cowell said this secret superstar will be making an appearance on the program as a judge.

Bieber, Coldplay, Katy Perry Set to Play American Music Awards

Posted by Deena Edison On October - 21 - 2010

This year’s American Music Awards roster is soon to get a bit more international.  The performance lineup, which already includes Barbados resident Rihanna, will have two additional international performers joining the lineup: Justin Bieber from Canada and Coldplay from Great Britain.

It isn’t too surprising seeing Bieber added to the roster.  After all, Bieber is one of this year’s most successful performers and is a nominee as well.  The same is true of Katy Perry with her two smash hits, “Teenage Dream” and “California Gurls.”

However, it is a bit more surprising, seeing the addition of Coldplay to the lineup.  Will we finally hear the band play some new music?  It’s possible.  They’ve been working on songs over the last several months.

The AMA lineup that was previously announced includes Bon Jovi, Pink and Usher.

Is Justin Bieber Considering Releasing an Acoustic Album

Posted by Deena Edison On October - 20 - 2010

It was reported previously that Justin Bieber was hinting about the release of an acoustic album right before Christmas.

Just the thought of being able to listen to the dulcet tones of the Bieb while eating Christmas dinner will get all of Bieber’s fans in a flutter.  The star himself has confirmed the exciting news.

Justin shared the news on his Facebook official page.

I am not going to hint about this any longer.  Next month I will release an acoustic unplugged album with new stuff too.

With the holidays coming, it time to take things back to how they started.  That’s singing and a guitar.  Thanks.

Justin Bieber Faces Assault Probe After Laser Tag Goes Awry

Posted by Deena Edison On October - 18 - 2010

Justin Bieber, Canadian pop star, is under investigation by the police due to an alleged mishap during a laser tag game involving a twelve year old.

On Friday the sixteen year old Bieber was attempting to not get tagged while playing a game.  He knocked an unidentified boy over accidentally.  According to a report on Sunday in the Vancouver Sun, the injuries were minor.

Other reports, however, are suggesting there could have been more involved in the incident.

Zack Taylor, a blogger said on the NBC show “Today” that a group of twelve year olds were surrounding Justin within a laser tag maze.  They started to shoot at him.  Just like anyone else playing laser tag would do, Justin bolted from the laser tag area, accidentally hitting a kid in the face.

The incident was reported to the police by the father of the twelve year old boy.  He claimed his son had been assaulted and had minimal injuries.  Medical attention was not required.

Other reports on blogs state that Bieber might have been subject to jeers inside the arcade.

Kristin Benson, Hollywoodlife.com editor wrote, according to reports there were kids taunting him using homophobic remarks.  That could have started the altercation.

Corporal Annie Linteau, spokeswoman for the Royal Canadian Mounted Police said, the investigation is active.  We are interviewing several people that witnessed what may have occurred.

On Tuesday Bieber is set to perform a concert in Vancouver.

Shawty Mane Preparing a Come Back?

Posted by Deena Edison On October - 13 - 2010

Remember how surprised everyone was when Justin Bieber did the rhyming over “Speaking in Tungs” by Cam’ron and Vado as Shawty Mane, Bieber’s rap alter ego?  MTV News recently caught up with Justin to discuss how the hip hop persona of his originated.

I don’t know.  Shawty Mane.  Some of my friends and me were messing around.  They said Shawty Mane.  Yeah, I thought that will be my nickname, Bieber said at a book signing in L.A. For “Justin Bieber: First Step 2 Forever: My Story.”

Instead of being a MC as a second career, Bieber said it was just in jest.

Bieber explained, Shawty Mane is a funny character.  Justin Bieber isn’t a rapper.  If I were to come out rapping that would be lame.  I am a pop singer.  It was just a joke.  It was pretty funny I thought.  It wasn’t anything serious.

Following the verse by the Canadian surfacing on OnSmash and other rap blogs, many fans started calling foul.  They claimed the rhymes from Bieber really belonged to Tory Lanez, a Canadian rapper.

Lanez said, I heard his song on Worldstar.  I have a great Canadian fan base.  People were asking me if knew Justin Bieber had taken my line.  I just smirked and laughed at it.  It’s funny hearing someone using my lyrics.  However I didn’t think what he did was anything crooked.

The fledgling MC ultimately is getting more attention after the nod from Bieber.  So all ends well.  In terms of Shawty Mane returning, who needs Ludacris featured if Bieber is doing the rhyming, right?

Bieber smiled and said, I like rapping.  It was fun.  Maybe Shawty Mane will return sometime in the future.

Justin Bieber Launches Line of Glittery Nail Polish

Posted by Deena Edison On October - 9 - 2010

Poor little Justin Bieber, he may be one of, if not the most, popular pop acts today, and he may be strutting his stuff and flipping that thick bangs of his in the small screen as well as on the road.  And just as you thought you saw Bieber’s face everywhere you can lay your eyes on, wait till you hear this…

Justin Bieber is the new face of a line of nail polishes by OPI. Really? Nail polish?

The product is set to come out this Yuletide season and will have the artist’s songs as the name for each nail polish variant and will carry the name and face of the singer in every bottle.  And Bieber cannot complain, as his image and his name is owned by record label Island Records and can use it in whatever way they desire, and that includes a seemingly embarrassing nail polish line.

The question that should be answered now is this is, will Bieber’s fans buy this kind of stuff simply because it has the singer’s face on it? It’s kind of lame if you would ask me but if the product ends up raking in the big bucks, should Bieber at least get a percentage off a product which in a hundred years none of us would ever saw him being involved in?  If that should happen, that is the silver lining for Justin.

Justin Bieber to Host Resurrected ‘Punk’d’ Show?

Posted by Deena Edison On October - 7 - 2010

Teen pop sensation Justin Bieber is in a roll in TV these days.  After his successful stint on the NBC sketch show “Saturday Night Live” last spring and his guest appearance on the season premiere of “CSI” last month, Deadline came out with the news that the hair flipping Canadian singer is now in talks with MTV to resuscitate the MTV reality show “Punk’d”, which was once hosted by Ashton Kutcher.

In a separate report by Vulture, if the plan pushes through, Bieber will be hosting the show which is said to come back next year.  Aside from hosting, the singer will also be directly involved in a few of the pranks on a whole new bunch of celebrities in the initial slew of episodes.  Kutcher, who pioneered and conceptualized the show with Jason Goldberg, will both be taking a back seat as executive producers.

MTV eyed on signing the 16-year old “Baby” singer since the aim was to revive the show to a specific target audience, a demographic which has the hots for both the singer and his bangs, and not to mention the singer has at least 5 million followers on Twitter, so we’re guessing they’re trying to market the show to younger audiences, and hopefully with that, the show could be propelled to the same level of success, or even greater, back when Kutcher was at the helm.   Kutcher’s “Punk’d” bid adieu in 2007.

At present, Bieber is prepping for the forthcoming release of his book, a 3D film about his life and a doll in his likeness which will come out just in time for the holidays.  In addition, he is also busy pounding the pavement for his album tour dubbed as “My World Tour” which could keep him on the road till early next year.

Justin Bieber Races Against Lady Gaga to a Billion YouTube Views

Posted by Deena Edison On October - 4 - 2010

Justin Bieber and Lady Gaga both are nearing a major music industry milestone: one billion views on YouTube.

If Lady Gaga keeps up with her current pace, she will surpass one billion views on approximately October 20 according to TubeMogul’s communications director David Birch.  She averaged nearly 1.8 million views daily during the month of September.

Bieber will go over 1 billion views on approximately November 1, according to Birch, if his current pace continues.  Bieber’s views during the month of September were viewed approximately 3.7 million times a day.

After Bieber and Lady Gaga, Michael Jackson is next closest with approximately 600 million views,  Birch says.

Although it appears that Lady Gaga will be first to reach one billion views, data from TubeMogul shows that Bieber lately has been hotter and has been the most viewed musical artist on YouTube.  According to data from TubeMobul Bieber from July through September averaged 3.98 million views daily while Lady Gage averaged 2.04 million views.

Since winter Bieber has been red hot.  Bieber since February 28, has averaged daily views of 3.83 million to Lady Gaga’s 2.53 million average.  To put these numbers into perspective, during this time period the average daily views for Kayne West have been 271,000 per day.

The thing that stands out the most is how consistently Bieber’s videos have performed.  TubeMogul in April started their “Most Viral Videos of the Month” for highlighting videos with the most views during a given month, including unofficial versions.  Almost 9 of 10 videos on the list are music videos.  The one constant over the months has been Justin Bieber.  From April to August for the top monthly videos, Bieber had 4 out of 10.

Bieber and Lady Gaga have many of the most-viewed all-time videos on YouTube.  The all time most watched video on YouTube is Bieber’s “Baby”  at 345 million views.  At 92 million views his song “Never Let You Go” ranks No. 22 and at No. 28 is his “Never Say Never” at 86 million views.

“Bad Romance” by Lady Gaga is YouTube’s No. 2 most viewed all time at 288 million views.  In the No. 11 spot is her “Just Dance” with 123 millions views.  At No. 26 is Gaga’s “Alejandro” at 87 million views.  In the No. 31 spot is her “Telephone” video at 85 million views.

Included in YouTube views are Vevo network videos but not those viewed at Vevo.com.  Rio Caraeff, Vevo CEO, stated approximately 90 percent of he views on Vevo are from YouTube.  Both Lady Gaga and Bieber views are viewed at Vevo.
