Justin Bieber Nabs BET Awards Nomination

Posted by Janice Bryant On May - 19 - 2010

The swagger coach for Justin Bieber deserves a bonus. The sixteen year old singer from Canada has received a BET award nomination. The hair-spiration and teen pop star will be competing for the best new artist award with Wale, a Washington rapper, along with Young Money and others.

The awards are given by the cable channel Black Entertainment Television and usually honor African American performers and artists like Beyonce, Jay-Z, and Alicia Keys, who leads this year’s nomination. However according to Reuters, Stephen Hill, Music Programming and Specials President for BET, said he considers Bieber to be a crossover artist.

Hill said, Bieber has crossed color boundaries in a way that is similar to hip hop crossing boundaries for many years the other way. He has inspired Twitter trends and teen stampedes as well. The BET awards show will be held June 27 in Los Angeles. Queen Latifah will host.

Bieber Discusses Miley, Hair with Ellen

Justin Bieber isn’t a one woman guy. However, Miley Cyrus probably isn’t bothered by that.

While taping a recent “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” episode, the tween sensation evaded answering Ellen’s questions about him dating Cyrus. I date around and hang out with girls. I don’t really date, Bieber said.

Like hanging out with Miley Cyrus, Ellen asked, as she showed a picture of Cyrus and Bieber walking together.

Bieber blushed and smiled and quickly responded that he likes hanging out with people.

Last week, Cyrus and Bieber were photographed in West Hollywood having dinner. However Bieber tried to convince Ellen other girls were also part of the picture. He said, you will see other girls I am hanging out with if you go to the Internet.

Later on in the show, which will be aired on May 17, DeGeneres allowed Bieber to discuss his hair, the thing he is best known for in addition to making girls swoon.

According to Bieber, it only takes him a few minutes to put his signature look together. Seriously, it’s like five minutes, Bieber said. People always say, yeah right. All I do after showering is blow it dry and in five minutes it’s done.

Then DeGeneres whipped a tiny pair of scissors out and started towards Bieber’s head. I just want to cut it a little bit, Ellen said.

Bieber then rose out of his chair half way before Ellen stopped. Maybe next time.

Bieber Fever Hits The Big “O”

You know you’ve made it big when, you not only have millions of screaming fans lining up to your every concert and world tour, but also, when you get invited by the “Queen of all Media” herself – Oprah Winfrey.

Justin Bieber was the feature guest on Oprah’s “World’s Most Talented Kids” episode, where only the most talented kids from around the world who dream big and would like to make it big in show business are featured. Justin’s appearance on Oprah turned the Harpo studios into a screaming fest of young girls (well, mostly) who are in their teens carrying assorted Bieber “paraphernalia” like shining shimmering splendid posters of the teen sensation.

Bieber did not come alone, though. He brought along his mom, Patty, with him and the two, along with Oprah, talked about growing up in Canada, how everyone caught on the “Bieber Fever” from YouTube – including Usher – who is partly responsible for the 16-year old’s success by signing him in for a record deal, maintaining a healthy and normal life with the fans screaming and the critics hating, and a lot more. The mother-son tandem didn’t seem nervous around Oprah, though. They said they were big fans of hers and have been watching her show from way back.

Oprah signed the help of her 11-yesr old correspondent Jordan who, along with his fans from the audience, threw some “real deal” questions at Bieber. The questions were mostly about his life at home (which his fans are just dying to hear about) like, if he ever gets grounded or if he does have a curfew. To this, his reply was a yes and a yes. Yes he does have a curfew at 10 PM and he does get grounded. When asked to recall the last time he had it, he said that he got grounded the week before and that his phone was confiscated for four long days.

Bieber was also asked how he feels about his fans getting injured and hurt at almost every concert that he had – whether it was in a mall at NYC or in Australia – where the show had to be canceled. He somehow could not fathom the magnitude of his impact now on teen girls all over the world but says that he is very appreciative for all the support, whether at his shows or concerts, or by simply following and tweeting him on his Twitter page, which he updates almost everyday.

Bieber capped his Oprah appearance by performing his new hit single “Baby” from his new album, “My World 2.0”. He delivered a concert-like performance, complete with microphone stunts, a dance routine and a solo drum performance. The entire studio, especially the audience including Oprah herself, were bouncing and screaming while “The Bieb” was performing.

Bieber Got “Lost in Translation” Down South

A video of Canadian pop heartthrob Justin Bieber has been spreading and garnering a lot of comments all over the internet – from media outlets like Vanity Fair and The Huffington Post.

The video is a clip from one of Bieber’s more recent interviews in New Zealand. The teen sensation was touring New Zealand at the time to promote his new album. Apparently, Bieber was confused when the interviewer asked him if “Bieber” is German for “Basketball”. He clearly did not understand the question because of the interviewer’s thick accent and had misheard the word “German” for “Jewman”. To this, his response to the question was, “We don’t say that in America”. He said this even after the interviewer showed him the note card right after he fumbled out of confusion.

When people on the net called him out for his little “Jewman” mishap, he took it out to his confidant, that is, his Twitter page that he DOES understand German, and that in fact he can count and say his name using the said language (even citing a link of that video clip). He also called out on all of his critics and “haters” to stop “making a lame attempt at hating on a 16 year old”. Bieber is being home schooled at present and is of German and Canadian descent.

And by the way, the German for “basketball” is basketball.
