Justin Bieber Causes a Riot at NY Mall

Long Island police found it necessary to shut down a scheduled appearance at a mall by Justin Bieber, teen pop singer, when things got too wild among the thousands of girls showing up.

The Friday crowd comprised of almost 3,000 adults and girls began to push and shove while waiting for fifteen year old Bieber to show up at Roosevelt Field Mall located in Garden City.

Things started to get out of hand two hours before Bieber’s scheduled appearance. Five people ended up being taken to hospital due to minor injuries.

Aimee Macchi, a thirteen year old girl who was at the mall said, people were screaming Justin. When they ran forward the ropes collapsed. In the rush I was knocked down to the floor. Everybody was pushing. There wasn’t any room to breathe.

A vice president of Island Def Jam Records, the record label of Bieber, was arrested by police because he was not cooperating with attempts for dispersing the crowd.

Police charged James Roppo from Hoboken, N.J. with several misdemeanors that included obstructing governmental administration and endangering children’s welfare.

Kevin Smith, Detective Lieutenant of the Nassau County Police said that they asked Roppo for his help to get the crowd to leave through sending a Twitter message out. By him not cooperating, we felt he put the public at risk and lives in danger.

Island Records, the label that released “My World,” the first album for the Canadian teen, apologized to fans this week through a written statement.

There were children and parents who had camped before dawn waiting for the scheduled 4 pm. appearance.

Bieber didn’t ever show up at the building.

Bieber sent a message through Twitter to his fans, telling them that they weren’t allowing him to come to the mall and said that the police were threatening his arrest if he did not leave.

In 2007 Bieber caught the music industry’s attention when he started to post videos on YouTube of him singing.

Justin Bieber Returns to ‘Ellen’ with Usher in Tow

Yesterday on her show, Ellen DeGeneres had a “Read Letter Day” segment where she reads fan mail and then responds. She had a letter from a girl who lives in Connecticut who was lamenting that she had missed the episode that featured a performance by Justin Bieber. DeGeneres said, that is why I keep my guests around for just these cases. She stood up and found Bieber on the ground reading an O magazine.

The audience greeted Bieber with rapturous cheers and also provided the fan from Connecticut with a shout out. After Ellen announced the release of My World, Bieber’s album, she added that Bieber and Usher were on the same label so it was only appropriate for Usher to be there too.

The stage curtain parted and Usher was revealed. He danced in and then hugged Ellen. The R&B superstar recalled the story of finding Bieber, revealing that Justin’s “U Got It Bad” rendition is what sold him on Bieber.

The stakes were then raised by DeGeneres. She said, you guys need to dance just a tiny bit. “Yeah” came on over the PA and Usher and Bieber started to bust out their moves, including the strange sideways moonwalk of Usher, which Bieber was able to perfectly imitate. The show was closed out by the pair reminding everyone about the golden ticket promotion of Bieber, which would give winners the opportunity for a Bieber private concert as well as the opportunity for appearing in a video of his.

Look for the Golden Ticket in Bieber’s ‘My World’

Has there ever been a young artist who has done as good a job creating a buzz for their debut album as Justin Bieber? The kid from Canada who kick started his entire career from posting footage of him singing onto YouTube is going completely grassroots. He is building up followers on Twitter, making friends on Facebook, making strategic singles, and having key performances on major shows like “Ellen” and “Today.” The efforts have all been a lead up to the November 17 release of My World, his debut album which features the singles “Love Me,” “One Less Lonely Girl” and “One Time.”

The next chapter for Bieber’s media blitz is something that he borrowed from Willy Wonka. Via Twitter Bieber announced that some of the copies from his new album would have golden tickets bundled with them. The recipients of the tickets will get a typically Bieber fan friendly prize. They will get a private Bieber concert. It is expected that legions of his rabid fans will be picking up truckloads of copies of his new album, My World, in order to have an opportunity for getting a personal Bieber show.

Justin Bieber is not the first musical artist to borrow the idea from Roald Dahl. Other rock bands have attempt to boost sales for their albums by promising prizes inside of them. The band Lamb of God had lottery tickets included with their album Wrath (2009) redeemable for signed memorabilia and trips for seeing the band. 30 Seconds To Mars had a dozen gold tickets that were dispersed into copies of their album A Beautiful Lie. The winner got backstage access that was free to any concerts of the band’s. The recent promotion of HEALTH might have topped them all so far. There were 66 golden tickets circulated with Get Color, their recent album, redeemable for various prizes that included a Los Angeles trip for hanging out with band members, posters that were autographed with band members blood and different types of personalized content. One favorite was a recording of one of the band members reading a short story.
